Save water and money? And contribute to environmental protection at the same time? We'll show you how!
The average water consumption of an individual in Austria is 130 liters per day. The largest portion of this is used in households as utility water for showering and bathing, washing clothes, cleaning, or flushing toilets.
Reducing your personal water consumption is easier than you might think and can save money while also benefiting the environment.
Almost all drinking water in Austria comes from protected groundwater sources. It reaches consumers in its natural state and with excellent quality.
How can i save water?
1. Only washing your laundry when the machine is full👖
Only do laundry when you have a full load! Running the washing machine with a half-empty drum is unnecessary. It’s also important to remember that not every piece of clothing needs to be washed after just one wear. Sometimes, airing out your clothes or spot-cleaning stains is enough.
2. Turn off the water while soaping up and brushing your teeth.🪥
While you're in the shower and lathering up, you can turn off the water and save several liters by doing so. Similarly, when brushing your teeth, the water doesn't need to keep running. You can either turn the water on only when needed or use a cup filled with water for rinsing.
3. Take showers instead of baths💧
The colder it gets, the more tempting it is to sink into a warm, full bath and relax. However, taking a bath uses significantly more water than showering. So, it's worth thinking twice before running a bath and opting for a water-saving shower instead!
4.When buying a new machine: Buy a energy-efficient one♻️
In general, it’s important to use and repair existing appliances until they can no longer be saved. However, if you need to purchase a new household appliance, make sure to prioritize water and energy efficiency. This way, you’ll automatically save more water in the future.
In Austria, there is a "Reparaturbonus" (repair bonus), which makes repairs up to 50% cheaper. You can find all the details here: https://www.reparaturbonus.at/
5.Use a energy saving program✅
Most dishwashers, washing machines, and similar household appliances come with an energy- and often water-saving program, usually labeled "Eco" or something similar. Take a closer look at your own appliances and, whenever possible, choose the energy-saving program for your washes!
Water is one of our most valuable resources, and even small actions in everyday life can make a big difference. Whether in the kitchen, garden, or bathroom, using water consciously not only saves money but also protects the environment. By reducing our water consumption, we actively contribute to sustainability and ensure that future generations can also benefit from this vital resource. It's time for each of us to take responsibility—because every drop counts!
It's important to cultivate a more mindful approach to water in our daily lives and to raise awareness that it is a valuable resource that must be protected!
