More than just a room: Living at the student dorm
A student dorm offers more than just a roof over your head – it is the hub of student life. Here you support each other during exam periods, enjoy free time together and celebrate as a group. A good dormitory is therefore much more than just a place to sleep and eat, which is why good organization is also essential.
What are the dorm representatives?
The dormitory council is a democratically elected body of residents that actively shapes dormitory life. Led by the dormitory representative, the council represents the interests of the residents and actively participates.
Your benefits as a dorm representative
As a part of the dorm representatives you have a lot of benefits:
- You gain valuable experience
- You meet many interesting people
- You receive an additional tolerance semester (for university & student grants)
- You earn ECTS credits for elective courses
- Under certain conditions, your entitlement to a dormitory place will be extended by one semester
Your role as dorm representative
As a dorm representative you also have a lot of tasks:
- You are the voice of the residents
- You enforce the dormitory council regulations
- You organize social and cultural activities
- You mediate disputes between residents
- You advocate for the rights of the residents
- You help decide how the dormitory funds are used
- You motivate others to get involved in the dormitory as well
- You stay in contact and communicate with your dormitory manager
- You collaborate with other dormitory representatives, the spokesperson for all dormitory councils at home4students and the Austrian Students' Union (ÖH)
Support through deputies and cashier
As a deputy, you support the dormitory representative with their tasks and take over when needed. As a cashier, you manage the dormitory funds and ensure everything is properly handled.
