Already in the mood for Christmas? No? Me neither.
It's a litte bit tough this year, but not impossible.
I asked my collegues about their favourite Christmas movie(s) to help me to get into holiday spirit. Mentioned are a few classics, but also some I didn't knew before.
Here are our favourite Christmas movies:
1. Home Alone
A classic. A lot of my peers love watchting this movie before Christmas. With and without children. I also really love that one.
Kevin is wishing his family away, instead his family forgot him and he is left alone at home. With thieves wanting to break in, he is getting very creative defending his home...
2. Love Actually
Instant classic. No Christmas without "Love Actually".
The actors, the setting, the music - me and my peers really love this movie. Because in the end: "...all you need is love"... and Hugh Grant dancing.
3. The Grinch
Nobody hates Christmas better than the Grinch. He is green and mean.
Love it. Everbody has a little Grinch inside, am I right?
Of course, there is hope for the Christmas hater on the horizon, eventually he will enjoy it. Maybe. So there is hope for us all.
4. It's a wonderful life
Co-worker J. was right: I possibly don't know that movie, because I am too young. I didn't know that movie, that's right, but young?
Well, this movie is about hope and dreams, very American. A little bit dramatic, but hey: it's Christmas after all.
5. Serendipidy
What a lovely movie. It takes place in New York in winter and is all about destiny and love. If two people are meant to be together, they will find each other (again).
Embrace the kitch in you and watch this movie!
6. Holiday
Who doesn't want to swap his house with a rich L.A. movie star? Well, I would, but I don't have a house.
The movie with Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law and Jack Black is the perfect holiday rom-com of your dreams.
PS: I would also take the cottage (with Jude Law) in Great Britain, if I have to. Now you know.
7. Lord of the Rings - The fellowship of the ring
This movie is not know as a Christmas movie, but we think it fits in very well. It's a fantasy adventure after all.
Who doesn't want to follow Frodo into (his) adventure? There are also white man with white hair beeing very wise:
All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.
Gandalf - Lord of the Rings
8. Rise of the Guardians
My lovely co-worker K. said to me, "Rise of the Guardians" must be on this list.
I was like: what? I never heard of this movie (and I had a filmblog). Soon I will know, because it's about some dark dude who likes to frighten kids and wants the world to live in fear. Just like Covid-19, I am in.
9. Single Bells
Sorry this is in German, but it's an Austrian classic. It's so funny. Austrians love this movie, you can't say anything bad about it.
If you want to watch a movie where (on Christmas) everything goes wrong, this is the right one. Also, if you mention this movie as a foreigner to Austrians, they will love you (more). I promise.
10. Die hard
As an action-movie fan I had to put "Die Hard" on this list. After all the movie takes place during Christmas in Los Angeles. It's a classic.
John McLane fighting the bad ones in a highrise - Yippee-Ki-Yay!
